Netflix has announced a slew of new documentaries coming to the service over the next few months, and one comes from Story Syndicate called take care of maya.
The documentary will make its first world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City from June 7-18, 2023.
According to the Tribeca Film Festival website, the documentary will be among more than 100 movies ready to release or exhibit throughout the festival. It’s also one of several movies and docs Netflix is bringing to Tribeca, including the perfect find, Poisoned: the danger in our food, and The saint of second chances.
According to Netflix, here is the official description of the new doc:
“When nine-year-old Maya Kowalski entered Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital in 2016, nothing could have prepared her and her family for what they were about to go through. As the medical team tried to understand her rare disease, they began to question the basic truths that bound the Kowalskis together. Suddenly, Maya was in the custody of the state, even though two parents were desperate to bring her daughter home. The Kowalski family story, told in her own words, will forever change the way we look at children’s health care.”

henry roosevelt directs the new documentary, having previously worked on the 2013 short film native boy and 2019 short, june sixth.
Ben Roosevelt and Colton Soref serve as co-producers on the project, while Dan Cogan, Liz Garbus, Jon Bardin, Kate Barry, Henry Roosevelt and Rylan Soref are listed as executive producers.
The documentary is produced by story syndicatethe suit that liz garbus and dan cogan founded. They have produced many documentaries for Netflix in recent years, including harry and meghan, Eat The Rich: The Gamestop Saga and I’m Vanessa Guillen. They’re also behind some of Netflix’s Oscar efforts, including What happened, Miss Simone? and icarus.
When take care of maya Will it premiere on Netflix?
As mentioned, the doc is set to premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival, with Netflix confirming that it will be coming to the service in the summer of 2023.
With that said, we can confirm that Netflix is currently considering a June 19, 2023 release date for the documentary, but that is subject to change.
