As the medical team tried to understand her rare disease, they began to question the basic truths that bound the Kowalskis together. Suddenly, Maya was in the custody of the state, even though two parents were desperate to bring her daughter home. The Kowalski family story, told in her own words, will forever change the way we look at children’s health care.”
