The long rumored Sponge Bob Square Pants The spinoff film that centers on Sandy Cheeks is coming to Netflix globally in 2024 (after originally slated for a 2023 release).
Rumored to be in development for several years, Netflix has officially added Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie to its list of movies that will be released in 2023 in February 2023. However, we have since learned that the movie was released in 2024.
According to Netflix, this is how they describe the new animated feature film:
“Bikini Bottom has been stolen! Sandy Cheeks and SpongeBob watch in disbelief as everyone’s favorite city is pulled out of the ocean by a sinister and mysterious company. Now Sandy and SpongeBob must go on an epic quest to Sandy’s home state of Texas and recruit his family to help save Patrick, Squidward, Mr. Krabs and the rest of the gang before time runs out. Continuing the franchise’s iconic mix of animation and live-action, Saving Bikini Bottom brings all the charm and irreverence of the series to the Wild West in this SpongeBob spin-off from director Liza Johnson.

liza johnson (The Last of Us, A Series of Unfortunate Events, Dead to Me) directs the film with a voice cast that includes Carolyn Lawrence, Tom Kenny, Bill Fagerbakke, Rodger Bumpass, Doug Lawrence, Clancy Brown, Mary Jo Catlett, Jill Talley, Craig Robinson, Gray Griffin, Johnny Knoxville, Loretta Devine, Gray DeLisle, Matty Cardarople, Ilia Isorelýs Paulino, and Wanda Sykes.

A Sandy movie for Netflix has long been rumored, and a report at the end of 2022 confirmed some details of the next Paramount titles that will be released later in the year and in 2023.
The report lists Emily in Paris as one of the big projects coming from Paramount exclusively for Netflix, and SpongeBob gets a mention, and the report says:
“SpongeBob SquarePants is a global phenomenon and is constantly investing in new content across all platforms. Looking ahead to 2023, content from all 14 seasons will continue to air on Clan and season 2 of the Kampamento Koral spin-off: SpongeBob First Adventures and the Patrick is the Star spin-off will premiere on Nickelodeon. And, as if this were not enough, in 2023 a new feature film by Arenita, one of the most beloved characters in the series, will be released on Netflix.
As nickalive noted, many details surrounding the new title remain unknown, including whether Netflix will carry the film globally or only in select territories. The movie could be part of the deal. Netflix stuck with Nickelodeon in 2020.
In recent years, Netflix has released several Nickelodeon movies based solely on established Nick intellectual property. More recently, they launched Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie, but other movies included Invader Zim: Enter the FLORPUS, the loud house movie, and Rocko’s Modern Life: Static Cling.
Netflix is also rumored for another SpongeBob movie. In 2019 The The New York Times reported that Netflix would also get a Squidward spin-off, but that was discredited soon after.

Is SpongeBob SquarePants on Netflix?
sponge Bob availability on Netflix is fragmented, to say the least. Numerous regions still broadcast select seasons of the main show, with other regions losing the title recently in regions such as the UK.
unogs reports that only 16 regions have Spongebob Squarepants, with regions like Canada only having one season.
Netflix acquired the international rights to The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run in the middle of the pandemic.
Netflix also added a SpongeBob game to its arsenal of over 50 mobile game titles. SpongeBob SquarePants Get Cooking! was released on iOS and Google Play on September 27, with the game being developed by iLLOGIKA.
