A US Air Force offensive lineman has died after experiencing a «medical emergency,» the Academy announced Tuesday.
hunter brown, 21, was leaving her dorm room for class on Monday when she suffered the unidentified emergency. She called first responders from the academy and they attempted life-saving measures, but were unsuccessful.
Brown, a sophomore from Lake Charles, Louisiana, was assigned to Cadet Squad 16 and was majoring in administration with a minor in French, the school said. In May 2021, he graduated from the US Air Force Academy High School.
Lt. Gen. Richard M. Clark, superintendent of the Air Force Academy, said that Brown was «highly respected in his squadron.»
«The entire US Air Force Academy mourns his loss, and our hearts and condolences go out to his family, his squadron and everyone touched by this incredible young man,» Clark said in a statement.
Brown was also remembered as a «standout» offensive lineman on the school’s football team, the Falcons, playing in the 2021 and 2022 seasons.
“Our players, staff and the entire Academy have been so blessed and fortunate to have Hunter as a part of our lives,” football coach Troy Calhoun said in a statement. «It was a pure joy to train and have as a teammate.»
Calhoun called Brown «tough» and said «no one selflessly went out of his way for others more than Hunter.»
«His mom and dad, Candyce and Dustin, raised an amazing son who made each of us a better person. We love our big brother, and our thoughts and prayers are with the amazing soul of Hunter and his family.» said.
Brown’s death will be investigated by the Air Force Office of Special Investigations and the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, standard protocol for military deaths on bases, the Academy said.
