The Ministry of the Interior is investigating the possible misuse of the Mexican flag during a concert by the American singer Miley Cyrus held this Tuesday in Monterrey, Nuevo León, according to an official from the agency.
During the first performance of Cyrus’s tour of this country, one of the dancers accompanying the singer hit the artist’s behind with the national flag.
The incident caused a scandal on social networks on the Internet, which intensified over the course of this Wednesday.
Even the Congress of Nuevo León asked the Ministry of the Interior to sanction the singer, since her show could have violated article 56 of the Law on the Shield, the Flag and the National Anthem.

The legislation establishes a penalty of up to US$1,200 or 36-hour arrest for those responsible for breaking the law. The Ministry of the Interior took up the case this Wednesday.
«It is an administrative investigation directed at the company that organized the concert because it is responsible for supervising compliance with the rules,» the spokesperson for the Interior told BBC Mundo. «So far, the company is responsible,» he added.
Cyrus, 21, is no stranger to controversy, and in her performances she never fails to invite scandal.
The young singer has grabbed headlines for her admission to having used drugs, her erotic dancing and for appearing naked, wearing only boots, in a music video.
The concert in Monterrey is part of The Bangerz Tour 2014 and coincided with the Independence Day festivities in Mexico.
Meanwhile, the tour of Mexico has not been interrupted. The next presentation will take place this Friday in Mexico City.
