Another month is right around the corner and if you’re looking for some movie recommendations, we’ve selected eight (or thirteen if you’re being pedantic) movies we hope to see for the first time or rewatch. throughout the month.
Unlike last month where we’ll pick four licensed movies and four Netflix originals, this month we’re tipping the scales in favor of licensed movies given the sheer number on the way.

The Most Anticipated Upcoming Netflix Original Movies Coming In April 2023
Coming to Netflix: april 7
Jonás Cuarón, best known for writing Gravity and helmsman Desertcomes to Netflix with the support of Christopher Columbus (Harry Potter, The Christmas Chronicles), a new family adventure film with big names and big ambitions.
Seemingly coming out of nowhere (development was muted from the start), the film will feature the talents of Christian Slater, Demián Bichir, and Evan Whitten.
According to Netflix, the movie revolves around a teenager who visits his family in Mexico and while there, he discovers a strange companion mythical creature.
The seven kings must die (2023)
Coming to Netflix: April 14th
Given the breadth of source material on offer, it was always a shame Netflix ended. the last kingdom after the fifth season. Thankfully, we’re not being cut off entirely, as the series looks to (conclude?) with a new movie set for release in mid-April 2023.
You’ll see many familiar faces from the series as you follow Alfred the Great who seeks to defend his territory from invading Norse forces.
It seems to have the same look and feel as the series while also increasing the budget in some areas. Our fingers are crossed for at least one fitting ending, but our fingers are firmly crossed for more to come.
Coming to Netflix: April 8
From Netflix’s international list coming next month is Hunger which is originally from Thailand. The film revolves around «a talented young street food cook who is pushed to the limit after accepting an invitation to train with a nefarious and ruthless chef.»
The feature film is directed by Sitisiri Mongkolsiri and written by Kongdej Jaturanrasamee.
Thai movies have yet to make their mark around the world on Netflix, but given the universal language of food, maybe Hunger it can break through where previous movies haven’t.

the Mauritanian (2021)
Coming to Netflix: April 1st
We always hear from Netflix users that they want two things. A) good movies and B) recent movies. Hitting both boxes is STX Films’ The Mauritanian, which has an all-star cast, including Zachary Levi, Shailene Woodley, Benedict Cumberbatch and Jodie Foster.
Based on the book Guantánamo Diary, the film tells the story of Mohamedou Ould Slahi and his fight for freedom after being detained and imprisoned by the US government without formal charges.
Certified Fresh rating on RottenTomatoes, Sunday’s mail he said the film was «a powerful, well-made film that deserves to be seen.»
Turn off the lights (2016)
Coming to Netflix: April 11
A little later, in April 2023, Lights Out by David F. Sandberg, who is attached to the second Shazam movie currently showing in theaters. Given the director’s recent comments on returning to the horror genreyou may want to see your previous works and Turn off the lights is a great place to start.
Here’s the official synopsis for the movie if you haven’t seen it before:
«Rebecca must unlock the terror behind her little brother’s experiences that once tested her sanity, coming face to face with a supernatural spirit attached to her mother.»
Teresa Palmer, Maria Bello, Bille Burke and Emily Alyn Lind star.
Alfred Hitchcock Film Collection
Another complaint from Netflix regulars is that they don’t get the actual classic movies, but next month the streamer will be picking up some of Alfred Hitchcock’s biggest movies.
The movies that will arrive on Netflix are the following:
- Marnie (1964) – A troubled young woman who has a fear of intimacy and a compulsion to steal, and her relationship with her employer who tries to unravel the mystery behind her behavior.
- Psycho (1960) – A young woman steals money from her employer and stays at an out-of-the-way motel run by a disturbed young man with a complicated relationship with his mother.
- The Birds (1963) – An inexplicable and violent bird attack occurs in a California coastal town. The film follows the people trying to survive the ordeal.
All movies coming to Netflix are licensed by Paramount Pictures.
the bourne movies
Netflix has been blowing it away when it comes to licensing entire movie collections. So far in 2023, Netflix US has shown all The Lord of the rings films, The Hunger Games, and all the Rocky movies too
It will now do the same for all but one of Universal’s Jason Bourne movies and Jeremy Renner’s entry.
Based on the novels by Robert Ludlum, the film follows a man suffering from amnesia who is being hunted by the authorities.
How to Train Your Dragon (2010)
Coming to Netflix: April 1st
And finally, we will highlight How to Train Your Dragonone of many animated movies from the likes of Sony, DreamWorks, and Illumination, heading to the service on the first of the month.
Described as visually stunning, the film follows a Nordic teenager who befriends a dragon despite having been trained up to that point to hunt it.
Since Netflix has the series tied in with the movie; there has never been a better time to immerse yourself in the rich world of How to Train Your Dragon.
