Her deadpan humor and sarcasm in «White Lotus» made her a fan favorite, along with co-stars Jennifer Coolidge and F. Murray Abraham, who were also nominated for their supporting roles. The show was also nominated for best made-for-television limited series.

Diego Calva, 30, earned his first Golden Globe nomination for his portrayal of Manny Torres in «Babylon,» a Damien Chazelle-directed film about everyday people who became Hollywood legends during the golden age of silent movies in the 1920s.

Born in Mexico, the actor plays a fictional character who rises from assistant to silent film producer.

“It was great to put a face to a successful Mexican at that time,” Calva told NBC News. “Latinos, we were always here, you know, working on this.”

In addition to «Babylon,» fans may recognize Calva from Netflix’s «Narcos: Mexico,» in which he played drug lord Arturo Beltrán Leyva.

«Babylon» was also nominated for best motion picture musical or comedy. Calva’s co-stars Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie also received nominations for their performances in the film, while Justin Hurwitz received one for Best Original Motion Picture Score.

Luna, 43, was nominated for Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Television Drama Series for her role as Cassian Andor in Disney+’s «Andor,» which is part of the Star Wars Cinematic Universe.

The Mexican actor first played Cassian Andor in 2017’s «Star Wars: Rogue One», making him the first Latino protagonist of the franchise. Since then, Latino actors, such as Pedro Pascal and Rosario Dawson, have landed leading roles within the franchise. Pascal in «The Mandalorian» Y Dawson in «Ahsoka.»

Two other young Latinas, Anya Taylor-Joy and Ana de Armas, earned best performance nominations for their leading film roles.

De Armas, 34, earned her second Golden Globe nomination for her portrayal of Marilyn Monroe in the somewhat controversial Netflix psychodrama NC-17 «Blonde,» a fictional chronicle of the private life of the pop culture icon and Hollywood of the 50s and 60s.

The Cuban-born actress said she spent nearly a year working to perfect Monroe’s distinctive accent, counting sunday times«It took me nine months to train and practice dialects and some ADR,» or re-record.

“It was great torture, very exhausting,” De Armas said.
