Rep. Nancy Mace, RS.C., said Monday that the Food and Drug Administration should ignore a federal judge’s ruling Friday that endangers a commonly used abortion pill.

“This is an FDA approved drug. Whether you agree to its use or not, that’s not your decision,» Mace told CNN in a statement. interview. «That is the FDA’s decision on the efficacy, safety and use of that particular drug.»

Asked if he thought the judge’s ruling would be ignored, Mace said: «I’m okay with ignoring it at this point.»

«This thing should be scrapped, frankly,» he added.

US District Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk, who was appointed by President Donald Trump, issued a ruling Friday that would suspend FDA approval of the abortion drug mifepristone. The Biden administration filed an application with a federal appeals court on Monday to block the ruling.

few republicans in Congress have commented about the ruling.

Mace has repeatedly criticized her party for what she has called a lack of «compassion» towards women in relation to abortion rights. Last month, she criticized a bill backed by some Republican lawmakers in South Carolina that would potentially subject women who have abortions to execution.

“This is an issue that Republicans have been largely on the wrong side of. In the last nine months, we have shown no compassion towards women,” Mace said Monday. “There are many pro-life people who also, although they are pro-life, do not want the government to intervene in this radical way.”
