LONDON (AP) — Prince Harry and his wife Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, were involved in a «nearly catastrophic» car chase with paparazzi in the United States, a spokesman for the prince said Wednesday.

“This relentless pursuit, which lasted for more than two hours, resulted in multiple near collisions involving other drivers on the road, pedestrians and two NYPD officers,” the spokesperson said in a statement to Reuters.

They added that the “nearly catastrophic car chase” came “at the hands of a highly aggressive paparazzi ring.”

The incident came after the couple attended the ‘Women of Vision Awards’ at New York’s Ziegfeld Ballroom on Tuesday. Meghan’s mom, Doria Ragland, also attended the event.

It was the first public event they had attended since the coronation of King Charles III, which Meghan did not attend.

After stepping down as senior royals in January 2020 and moving to California, the couple repeatedly complained about how much the media went to persecute them.

Harry also said his biggest fear before leaving the royal family was that «history would repeat itself» with his wife facing the same intense scrutiny as her late mother, Princess Diana, who was killed in a Paris car crash while being chased by paparazzi.
