New England Patriots Cornerback Jonathan Jones rejected the NFL’s gambling policy Thursday after three players were slapped with indefinite suspensions for violating league rules.

Jones, 29, tweeted his disagreement Thursday after Indianapolis Colts Players Isaiah Rodgers and Rashod Berry, along with free agent Demetrius Taylor, received suspensions for betting on NFL games during the 2022 season.

«I understand rules are rules,» Jones wrote, «but I can risk my life for my team to win, but I can’t risk 1k for my team to win.»

Fans on social media raised the issue of protecting the «integrity» of the game, but Jones argued that players could limit themselves to placing bets «only for the benefit of their team.»

Jones’ critique comes amidst the nfl recent crackdown on players who violate the league’s wagering policy.

In April, three players were suspended indefinitely and two more received six-game suspensions to start the 2023 season.

In addition to the wave of suspensions on Thursday, tennessee titans Offensive tackle Nicholas Petit-Frere was suspended six games for gambling on non-NFL games at club facilities, also a violation of league policy.

«The gaming policy, which is reviewed annually with all NFL personnel, including players, prohibits any person in the NFL from participating in any form of gaming at any club or facility or venue in the league, including facilities practice,» the league said in a statement. .

The Colts announced shortly after that Berry and Rodgers had been fired «as a consequence» of their violations.

The three players facing indefinite suspensions can apply for reinstatement at the end of the 2023 season.
