Pat McAfee was among those who remembered the late Ryan Mallett on Wednesday when the former punter turned radio host told a story about one of his outings.

McAfee said on his radio show that he remembered meeting Mallett several times, and on one of the nights they spent together, he and golfer John Daly «sang a song together.» Mallett was a standout quarterback at Arkansas, as Daly was also a Razorbacks golfer earlier in his life.

Mallett was among those on a shoal off the coast of a Florida beach, but when the group tried to swim back, authorities said Mallett capsized. Lifeguards pulled him out of the water but were unable to revive him.

«I guess nobody thought that every time they went to the beach yesterday and got into the ocean, they were going to come back with one less person,» McAfee said.

McAfee was a punter in West Virginia from 2005 to 2008, while Mallett was a quarterback first at Michigan and then at Arkansas from 2007 to 2010. Both were in the NFL at the same time: McAfee for the Indianapolis Colts and Mallett for New England. . Patriots, Houston Texans and Baltimore Ravens.
