Welcome to your weekly roundup of the biggest stories from Netflix’s top 10 hourly figures for the week ending March 12, 2023. This week we’ll discuss you the glory, Luther: the fallen sun, Chris Rock: Selective Outrageand even Wednesday.

Every Tuesday, Netflix updates its top 10 stats page with 40 new figures per hour from the best movies and shows of the last seven days. If you want to easily browse the top 10 hourly data, visit our tool.

Note: In this report of Netflix hours viewed from March 6, 2023 to March 12, 2023, we will use «Full View Equivalent» or CVE, expressed in millions. That means we divide the hours watched advertised by Netflix by the running time of the movies or series. It allows for better comparisons between movies and series, but it is not an audience metric. It is the minimum number of viewings if they were all complete from the first second to the last of the movie or season.

1. A tale of two returning series: You and The glory

Last week two series returned with a season split in two.

the first to go up is You returning with season 4B four weeks after the first part. The tricky thing about You is that, according to Netflix’s methodology, they don’t distinguish the hours watched between parts A and B. So we have virtually no way of knowing precisely how well the second part released.

However, we can compare the watched hours of Season 4 over the last 5 weeks, and it’s quite worrying for You.

Your Season 4 CVE audience for 5 weeks

As we can see here, the viewership numbers for the release of the last five episodes and the first five episodes last week are less important than the release of the first five episodes of Season 4 during its first four days. It could pick up next week, but for now, that’s a pretty lackluster part of season 4B, and one might wonder why Netflix would split into two parts (except for the obvious reason of making sure US audiences still subscribe to the show). March finale) because in this case, he probably did the series a disservice.

luckily for YouThe numbers are on their side, as Netflix has never canceled a fictional series after season 4. Some had a fourth final season decided beforehand, and others were renewed, so I’ll go with a final season renewal.

From the other side of the world, The glory it also returned with the second part of its first season, two and a half months after the release of the first part. In this case, however, we can study how part 2 is doing compared to part 1, since we have a bonus number: the Top 10 of all time.

I won’t bore you with the details and math, but let’s just say the series is back with a bang. The first party registered 3.8 million CVEs during the first three days, while the B party obtained more than 14 million CVEs during the same period.

We will be able to monitor the distinction between Part 1 and Part 2 for the next three and a half weeks, at which time we will know for sure the size of its success.

2. luther it’s coming out this week.

Luther: the fallen sun it soars high in the sky with over 30 million CVEs during its first three days. That’s the best release for any UK film (unless you count Enola Holmes 2 as a British film, but I don’t) in the dataset.

The combination of a well-known IP plus Idris Elba and a pretty good audience reception might have helped, but it’s higher than I would have thought.

3. Chris Rock: Selective Outrage it’s finally here.

After not showing up in its opening weekend (in part because Netflix classifies the special among TV series that are much longer and also because the special was not available at launch to anyone who subscribes to Netflix without English as their preferred language interface), Chris Rock’s Selective Outrage is on the charts this week. She did very well with a 17.8 million CVE tune, to be precise.

That’s quite an achievement for which it’s hard to offer meaningful comparisons, but let’s just say it’s a good one.

4. Goodbye, Wednesday

It took 15 weeks, but Wednesday is off the charts for the first time since its release.

The smash hit breaks out of the visible Top 10 universe with a total of 258.7 million CVEs in 15 weeks, a feat second only to the behemoth that is squid game.

That was an unexpected scenario from the start; even Jenna Ortega couldn’t have (re)written it better.
