Netflix Series ‘The Fall of the House of Usher’: Everything We Know So Far

Mike Flanagan, the incredible mind behind some of the best horror shows on Netflix, returns to adapt another classic horror novel and it will be his last project with Netflix. Here is everything we know about The Fall of the House of Usher, Due for release in 2023.

The series is produced by mike flanagan‘sand Trevor Macy‘s Intrepid Pictures, the same production behind all of Flanagan’s movies and TV shows.

It comes as part of Flanagan’s overall deal with Netflix, which expired in 2022 and saw the writer-director-producer move to Prime Video.

Flanagan will direct episodes, as will Michael Fimognari, who has worked in Midnight mass, the haunting series, and even Netflix to all the boys films.

What is the production status of The fall of the House of Usher?

Listed by Production Weekly for December 2021, filming was scheduled to start in Vancouver, Canada, on January 24, 2022, and will take place over four months. It was initially scheduled to end on Wednesday, May 25, 2022.

Confirmation that filming had started came from several actors posting on social media about the project. Kate Siegel posted on Jan. 26, pointing to a logo sign for the new series.

Flanagan later clarified that even though the entire cast was in Canada, the cameras hadn’t started rolling yet.

The show is filming at Bridge Studios in Burnaby, BC, Canada. has been the filming at home for many Netflix projects over the years, including Flanagan’s previous works as Midnight mass and The Haunting of Bly Manorso also for Lost in Space, New cherry flavor., christmas chronicles, and Operation Christmas Drop.

Filming finally wrapped on the series on July 9 with a candid twitter thread of Mike Flanagan confirming the wrap. We’ve included some of the main parts of this Twitter thread below:

“A few minutes ago we finished the production of THE FALL OF THE HOUSE OF USHER, closing a great chapter of my life. I’ve worked in Vancouver almost non-stop since BLY MANOR in 2019. We did 4 series in 3 years, only taking a short break for the COVID lockdown in early 2020.

BLY MANOR, MIDNIGHT MASS, MIDNIGHT CLUB AND HOUSE OF USHER were deeply challenging. Three of those shows were produced during the pandemic, amid ever-changing security protocols designed to keep our huge casts and crews safe.

It has been a privilege to work with wonderful collaborators, actors, directors, storytellers, crew, family and friends for so long, on THIRTY-FOUR EPISODES of television, the most difficult and rewarding job of my life.
This isn’t completely closing the book on @intrepid’s «Vancouver Era», I’m sure we’ll come back, but it does feel like the end of a very specific chapter. The world has changed profoundly since BLY preparation began, and many of us go through a lot together.

Thank you Vancouver for being such a wonderful home to my entire family these past few years. My kids practically grew up here. I’m sure I’ll see you soon. Until then, I wish you the best and thank you for everything.»

Flanagan provided an update in May 2023 in response to an article falsely claiming the series could be cancelled. In the tweet, flanagan says:

“THE FALL OF THE HOUSE OF USHER is right on time, we are finishing up delivering it and it will stream on Netflix later this year as planned. We will announce the date soon.»

In December 2022, Mike Flanagan and Trevor Macy spoke to Deadline about the upcoming Original series saying:

“MACY: We are as excited as we could be with how it turned out. We’ve just blacked out the image on all episodes, so we’ve been living with them a lot lately. And in many ways, I think it’s one of our shows that could connect with the largest audience. I love it for that reason, but it also feels different than anything else on TV, and I’m proud of it for that reason. We are very optimistic about it. And Netflix says they are too, so we’re counting on them to get it right.

FLANAGAN: In a lot of ways, I feel like it’s the perfect arc for that Netflix era of Intrepid to draw in so many cast members and elements and themes from all the shows we’ve done there. It really is kind of a big call to the scene for the kind of Netflix work that we did. I can tell you that it’s my wife’s favorite show of all shows, and she’s always right. I’m still too close to saying I love the show; I’m so excited about it. And, for the tumultuous periods and events during production that you’re talking about, Bruce Greenwood really erased any memory of that for us and delivered this incredible performance in a show that we’re really excited about. So I’m very hopeful for when it finally sees the light of day.»

For a start, Frank Langella I was on the show. However, he was eventually replaced.

Langella was to play Roderick Usher, the imposing patriarch of the Usher dynasty. He is an actor best known for Frost/Nixon and The trial of the Chicago 7. He began filming the series, but was supposedly fired of production in April 2022. This was following an investigation into the actor. The report “determined that Langella had engaged in unacceptable conduct on set. As a result, the decision was made to recast the role of Roderick Usher.»

All of the scenes that had been filmed with Langella were reshot, and at the end of April 2022, it was announced bruce greenwood He was the one who was going to replace him.

When is the Netflix release date of The fall of the House of Usher?

Given that filming will take place between January and July 2022, it is highly unlikely that we will see The fall of the House of Usher released in 2022 (Flanagan’s 2022 release is the midnight club leaving in October 2022).

It’s more than likely that we’ll see the series drop sometime in 2023. Since we’re seeing all of Flanagan’s projects launch in October, our best guess is that the show will launch in October 2023.
