Netflix has just presented its list of new movies that will be released in November 2023, and among the list was Liona new animated film from Adam Sandler and his production company, Happy Madison.
The movie has been in development for quite some time. The Hollywood Report first reported that Adam Sandler was planning an animated film. in May 2016.
Then in 2022, Netflix Animation registered a copyright short form waiver for Leo in November 2021 outside of STX Animation and STX Filmdev. Sadly, we were unable to get confirmation from Netflix that the project had landed with them. The film also had an alternate development title, «The Big Kids».
Of course, Adam Sandler is no stranger to animation, having delivered the Hotel Transylvania for Sony Pictures.
Who’s behind Lion on netflix?
Roberto Smigel, Roberto Marianettiand david wachtenheim They are the project managers.
Smigel worked on Saturday night live, drunk love, and little nicky.
Marianetti and Wachtenheim are a creative duo behind “W/M Animation, a New York-based full-service animation company that has produced and directed award-winning work for clients ranging from Cartoon Network, HBO, Disney/ABC, Universal, ESPN, Fox TV, Comedy Central, NBC, Sesame Workshop and Coca Cola.
That Lion on Netflix about?
Netflix describes the project as an «animated coming-of-age musical.»
comedy about the last year of elementary school, seen through the eyes of a class mascot.
They go on to provide additional information about the film, adding:
“Leo (Sandler), a jaded 74-year-old lizard, has become trapped in the
same class from Florida for decades with his terrarium companion tortoise (Bill Burr).When he learns that he only has one year to live, he plans to escape to experience life on the outside, but instead finds himself caught up in the problems of his eager students, including an incredibly mean substitute teacher. It ends up being the weirdest but most rewarding wish list ever…”

When Lion release on Netflix?
Lion It will be released on Netflix globally on November 22, 2023.
On June 14, at the Annecy Festival at the Theater Bonlieu, the «See What’s Next @ Netflix» panel will reveal a special preview of the animated feature.

This is just one of several projects Netflix has with Sandler involved in the coming months and years. Astronaut it is confirmed that he will arrive on Netflix in 2023 and he will also reunite with the Safdie brothers for a Netflix project.
Lion it also joins a heavily stacked upcoming list of new animated movies slated to arrive in 2023 and beyond. Other 2023 entries include Nimona, the monkey king, and Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget.
