Netflix Original’s first major animated children’s series will leave the service in April 2023, with a takedown notice stating that all three Fast Turbo Seasons must start April 2, 2023.
The series was one of Netflix’s first batch of Netflix Originals, debuting in December 2013 right behind lilyhammer and house of cards. It’s so old, in fact, that season 1 still features a very early Netflix logo when you boot up the show.
FAST Turbo it released 52 episodes over three seasons, with the third and final season arriving in February 2016.
Fast Turbo it was the first of many titles in a partnership with DreamWorks Animation Television, which is still in existence today. Although it was released first on Netflix, NBCUniversal, like all DreamWorks production, NBC retained broadcast rights.
While there is no removal date displayed on the page itself, when you launch any episode from all three seasons, a removal notice appears in the top left of the screen stating that your last day to watch Netflix is January 1. April 2023.
Additionally, Netflix regularly licenses the film on which the show is based in most regions of the world, and the United States just re-licensed the film on March 1, 2023.
Because it is FAST Turbo leaving Netflix?
It all comes down to licensing, and while FAST Turbo is a Netflix Original title, it remains the property of DreamWork Television and its parent company, NBC Universal/Comcast.
Of course, Netflix Originals leaving Netflix isn’t a new phenomenon; we’ve been covering it for a while now and have cataloged over 60 series and movies, all at one point with the Original branding no longer residing on the service.
However, we have to keep in mind that sometimes when originals are removed, Netflix might renew them. That was the case with lilyhammer and, more recently, Medici.
Our research indicates that all DreamWorks Television series will eventually leave Netflix unless new license periods are reached.
More big Netflix Originals will come out in the coming years and decades, with great shows like orange is the new black, house of cards, and ozark ultimately owned by other providers.
