The film will be the directorial debut of creed 2 writer Juel Taylor. Taylor wrote the screenplay for the film with Tony Rettenmaier (the thief of light). “A pulpy and mysterious sci-fi caper in which an unlikely trio investigates a series of hair-raising events, alerting them to a nefarious conspiracy lurking directly under their hood. Fontaine, a neighborhood drug dealer, is shot dead by his rival Isaac’s and is then shocked to wake up unharmed in his bed the next morning. He, Slick Charles, and Yo-Yo begin to investigate the incident, their search eventually leading them to a vast underground complex where a government-backed laboratory is conducting experiments on the local black population. Realizing that he is an artificial clone controlled by Nixon, Fontaine initially feels hopeless, but decides that he must take on these white institutional overlords for the good of his neighborhood.»

In an interview with ComingSoon.net, John Boyega derided the film as an «American version of attack the block” adding “It is your [Juel Taylor’s] first feature film, but there’s a reason he drew the likes of Jamie Foxx to his project. The script is phenomenal.»

Leading the upcoming sci-fi movie is John Boyega, known for his role as Finn in the latest Star Wars trilogy. Boyega plays Tyrone Fontaine, the neighborhood drug dealer mentioned in the synopsis above. Boyega said in an interview that he was very happy to work at They cloned Tyrone.
“This is me going home for a bit. Like, this is in the United States attack the block for me. I’m beyond excited to see a hooded little guy go through an alien experience. production for They cloned Tyrone began on November 9, 2020 at Blackhall Studios, Atlanta. Filming is expected to extend through the winter and wrap up on January 29. Production is also expected to take place in Cape Town, South Africa.
In mid-January 2021, DailyMail managed to pick up some early shots of the movie with their fries revealing the actors’ costumes and makeup.
