The Ministry of Mines and Energy announced that in the second half of this year it will file the bill to modernize the mining sector in the national territory.

The objective of the bill, according to the Government, is to help transform the different socio-environmental conflicts that are present at present and that are «inherited from the current legislation in opportunities to build peace and justice.»

The announcement of the filing of this bill comes after the National Mining Summit, which took place during the most recent weekend.

According to Radius Wthe bill will take into account the contributions and conclusions of the National Mining Summit, as well as the contributions made by citizens in the framework of public hearings held by Congress and other instances of dialogue dedicated to analyzing the mining policy and compiling proposals for its modification.

According to the official, the Government seeks to analyze the impact of the regulations to date to identify current proposals that allow for a more modern sector, aimed at providing well-being to the population, to contribute to the industrialization of the country, to encourage the productive diversification of mining territories, and to cement conditions of social and environmental justice.

It should be remembered that the National Mining Summit will be held for more than 1,500 people including miners, communities in territories affected by the extraction of minerals, private companies and spokespersons for the union and the academy, which were organized in 50 work tables to discuss in around four fundamental axes, and delivers proposals for the construction of the Mining Law.
