LOS ANGELES (AP) — Lisa Marie Presley, the only daughter of rock icon Elvis Presley, died Thursday, her mother said. She was 54 years old.

«It is with a heavy heart that I must share the devastating news that my beautiful daughter Lisa Marie has left us,» Priscilla Presley said in a statement to the Associated Press. «She was the most passionate, strong, loving woman I have ever met.»

The family is shocked and devastated by the death, Priscilla Presley said in a statement, thanking supporters for their love and prayers and asking for privacy.

Hours before the announcement, Priscilla Presley said her daughter had been rushed to the hospital.

Los Angeles County fire deputies and personnel responded to a home in Calabasas Thursday morning after receiving a call about a woman not breathing, authorities said.

First responders were able to find a pulse and she was transported by ambulance, authorities said.

His father’s legacy gained renewed interest last year through the Elvis movie which recounted his meteoric rise to fame and struggles with his controlling manager, Colonel Tom Parker.

Austin Butler, who played the title character, won best performance by an actor in a motion picture at the Golden Globes on Tuesday.

Lisa Marie and Priscilla Presley were at the Beverly Hilton to see Butler win that award.
