The NASCAR Cup Series returns to Talladega Superspeedway in Alabama this weekend.

The Cup Series season began with an upset victory for Ricky Stenhouse Jr. in the Daytona 500. The second race of the 2023 campaign featured a dominating victory for Joey Logano at Atlanta.

Sunday’s 500-mile race will mark the third draft event of the season. Christopher Bell leads the points standings heading into the Talladega weekend.

As anticipation builds for Talladega, some drivers will enter the weekend as favorites; while others will be the underdogs looking to pull off an upset.

Here’s a closer look at some drivers to watch out for this Sunday at Talladega Superspeedway:

joey logano

Logano came close to winning the second Daytona 500 of his career a couple of months ago, but was able to deliver a commanding performance in the new setup at Atlanta Motor Speedway in March.

Logano has experienced a resurgence so far this season after his performance has slipped the past two seasons. From early 2021 through the end of last year, Logano managed only one top-five finish in 10 races at drafting grounds.

brad keselowski

The last time Brad Keselowski took the checkered flag in a Cup Series race was two years ago at Talladega.

Keselowski led for most of the laps in this year’s Daytona 500. Keselowski and his teammate Chris Buescher were poised for a top-five finish if not for some late warnings.

Keselowski is tied for second on the list for all-time wins at Talladega, along with Hall of Famers Jeff Gordon and Dale Earnhardt Jr. with six.

He is looking to get to victory lane for the first time with RFK Racing on Sunday.

Chase Elliot

After a leg injury sidelined him for six events, Elliott returned to racing earlier this month in the Cup race at Martinsville Speedway. He managed to fight his way up to a tenth place finish.

«The top 10 is nothing to be too upset about,» Elliott said after the 400-lap race.

He finished seventh at Talladega last year, but he has a chance to win it this year.

kylebusch

Given his disappointing record at Talladega, it’s safe to say that Kyle Busch will be considered an underdog this Sunday. He has had nine finishes of 13 or worse in the last 11 races.
