The embalmed body of the giant tortoise known as «Lonely Jorge» and emblem of the Galapagos Islands in Ecuador, will remain in a museum in Quito, the Ministry of the Environment of this country published this Monday.

The Ministry said that until a place was found with all the requirements to preserve the remains of what was considered one of the symbols of the Galapagos, it will not be taken there.

«We do not disagree with the local and national community that we consider that the best place for the Solitaire to remain is its own home, but as those responsible for the care of this species, at least for now this cannot be the case,» Lorena Tapia said in a statement. , Minister of the Environment.
