Philadelphia has been a great sports city of late, with the Phillies going to the World Series and now the Eagles in the Super Bowl once again. That’s why the city is bracing for potential mayhem on the streets if the Eagles take home the Vince Lombardi Trophy on Sunday.

Crowds flooded the streets two weeks ago when the Eagles defeated the San Francisco 49ers to return to the Super Bowl after they won it in 2018. And that celebratory walk through the City of Brotherly Love has brought a challenge that many faithful from Philadelphia they want. achieve.

Climbing the greased poles around the city has been tough but not impossible. And while it doesn’t seem to have deterred fans from doing so, the city is gearing up once again for such an event to happen.

«The police department is evaluating protocols for the next game, including greasing the posts,» City of Philadelphia spokeswoman Joy Huertas told NPR.

«For public safety reasons, the city is not disclosing if/when the poles will be oiled.»

NPR spoke with an Eagles fan, who probably isn’t the only one who shares this sentiment.

«When we hear they’re greasing the poles, we hear it as a challenge, like, ‘Grease the jaws, we’re going to climb them,'» says Sean Hagan, 29, who climbed a pole when the Phillies beat the Padres. San Diego to go to the World Series.

It was the first time the Phillies had been to the World Series since 2009, when they lost to the New York Yankees. They eventually fell to the Houston Astros this time.

Light poles were greased by all the cities, but to no avail.

One guy even seemed to celebrate his summit by drinking a beer at the top. Eagles offensive lineman Jordan Mailata was also seen on Broad Street as the Phillies won the pennant.

All in all, it’s going to be a tough battle with the Kansas City Chiefs first, before any celebrations take place. But if the Eagles are victorious, Philadelphia will prepare to the best of its ability.
