Houston Astros manager Dusty Baker has coached in Major League Baseball since 1995.

Baker has seen just about everything in that time, including winning his first world series last season in Houston after failing to win a ring in his previous two coaching appearances.

On Friday, Darren Baker, a minor leaguer at the Washington Nationals Organizationhe hit a game-tying grand slam in the ninth inning against his father’s team, as the Nationals won 11–7 in a spring training game.

The 24-year-old is not known for his power, hitting only three home runs in his professional career before the grand slam on Friday.

«I knew he was going to make contact,» Dusty Baker said, according to MLB.com, «because he doesn’t strike out. But when the ball came up, I just hoped it was a sacrifice fly and he was happy.» with that. He would get the RBI, and we would get the win. But it hit him pretty good. He had a couple of good at-bats. He didn’t know whether to be a proud dad or an angry dad. «

Darren, who finished last season at Double-A, also singled in the eighth inning.

«It was amazing,» Darren said. «I don’t know when I’ve been harassed like that on the bench. Jeter [Downs] he was yelling at me. She was in front of me at second base. I don’t know, it was like an out of body experience.»

It’s not the first time father and son have faced each other, and the two exchanged line-up cards before Friday’s game.

«He thought he was going to play today,» Dusty said. «But he didn’t know when he was going to come in. [Nationals coach Tim] Bogar gave me the wave, and then my son gave me the wave that he was drawing the lineup card.»
