This Tuesday the Ibero-American Network of Aerospace Agencies came into operation, a project that brings together a dozen Ibero-American countries and that seeks to promote collective work in terms of technologies, knowledge and multilateral support regarding the aerospace sciences.

“This network is an ideal tool for sharing knowledge and it is a magnificent opportunityeven more so in a region as extensive as Ibero-America, since with the network we can easily reach any point”, said Mariano Jabonero, general secretary of the Organization of Ibero-American States (OEI), the entity that will coordinate the program.

The Ibero-American Network of Aerospace Agencies will be coordinated by the Organization of Ibero-American States for Education, Science and Culture (OEI); and It is the first that brings together the countries of this region.

Jabonero also stressed that a project of this nature was made necessary in a region like Latin America. «We have the technological maturity to undertake projects like this one,» he concluded.

The Colombian Space Agency, under the direction of Pilar Zamora, will be part of the Ibero-American Network of Aerospace Agencies.

– Brazilian Space Agency (AEB)
– Costa Rican Space Agency (AEC)

– National Commission for Aerospace Research and Development (CONIDA) of Peru
– Portuguese Space Agency
– Bolivarian Agency for Space Activities (ABAE) of Venezuela
– Latin American and Caribbean Space Agency (ALCE)

Likewise, the Ministry of Agricultural Development of Panama and the Spanish satellite operator Hispasat will be linked to the network.

His arrival in space was successful and he has already begun his study work.

The network pretends to be a meeting point between academia, science, technology and international cooperation, as well as the promotion of projects that will have a social impact in the countries.

Universities and research centers can also take part as collaborators in the contribution of knowledge and support in the projects.

The Secretary General of the OEI concluded, during the act of making the network official, that It is necessary to empower the region in terms of aerospace knowledgeas well as to recover and strengthen cooperation in science.

“Science must occupy a relevant place in the formulation of the policies of our countries (…). Now, after these difficult years, the social value of science has been demonstrated,” said Jabonero.
