Chilean justice on Monday refused to grant bail to one of the retired soldiers accused of the murder of Chilean singer-songwriter Víctor Jara, which occurred five days after the military coup of September 11, 1973.

Former Army Major Hernán Chacón Soto must remain in prison, after the decision of the Santiago Court of Appeals.

Local media highlight that according to the ruling, the ex-soldier constitutes a danger to the security of society, for which reason he will be confined to the Military Police Battalion.

Chacón Soto was prosecuted on September 3 by special judge Miguel Vásquez together with the mayor Patricio Vásquez as perpetrators of the kidnapping and homicide, and former military prosecutor Rolando Melo, accused of covering up said crimes.
