patrick mahomes he’s focused on his preparation ahead of Super Bowl LVII, so much so that he took the bait when former NFL wide receiver Brandon Marshall asked him about a made-up compliment from this year’s halftime artist Rihanna.

The six-time Pro Bowl receiver sat among reporters during Mahomes’ press conference Wednesday and asked the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback what he thought of Rihanna’s recent comments calling him the «greatest quarterback of all time.»

«Rihanna came out and said you’re the greatest quarterback of all time. Hearing that, how does that make you feel?» Marshall asked.

«He makes me feel great. He’s going to crush him at halftime,» Mahomes said. «I have family members who I think are more excited about the halftime show than the game. So whatever Rihanna says is like gospel, so I’m glad she went with me for that honor.»

Mahomes, who has clearly stayed away from the headlines, fell for Marshall’s joke.

«She didn’t, I’m just playing,» Marshall said with a smile.

«Oh man, you got me here grinning and grinning,» Mahomes responded.

Marshall followed up with a more serious question, asking Mahomes what he’s «chasing.»

«I don’t want to have any regrets when I walk off this football field,» Mahomes said.

So when I look back at the end of my career, I don’t want to look back. and say, ‘Man, I didn’t give it all I had to win super bowls because of the great people I have around me.’ So when I’m done with my career, I just want to make sure I know I gave it everything I had on that football field.»

Mahomes answered a few more questions about his matchup against the philadelphia eagles, but when he walked offstage, Marshall’s joke was still on his mind.

«I can’t believe you caught me with that question.»
