Two doctors and a midwife are on trial in Argentina accused of kidnapping the babies of left-wing political prisoners during the military regime of the 1970s and 1980s.

This is the first case in which members of the medical industry have been prosecuted for allegedly falsifying the birth certificates of babies after they were delivered.

Prosecutors in Buenos Aires accuse doctors Norberto Bianco and Raúl Martín, and midwife Luisa Yolanda Arroche of «providing essential assistance» to hide the identity of the babies and handing them over to supporters of the military government to raise as their own.
