Sony kicked off its 2023 movie slate with a new Tom Hanks movie called A man named Otto. The movie hit theaters in mid-January 2023, grossed over $100 million at the box office, and is now headed to Netflix, but only in the US and India.
Based on the 2012 novel, which was previously adapted into a film in 2015, this new entry comes from director Marc Forster and writer David Magee, with Tom Hanks starring as the film’s main lead.

“A Man Called Otto tells the story of Otto Anderson, a grump who no longer sees a purpose in his life after the loss of his wife. Otto is ready to call it quits, but his plans are interrupted when a lively young family moves in next door, finding his match in the witty Marisol.
Mariana Treviño, Rachel Keller and Manuel García-Rulfo are with Hanks in the film.
When A man named Otto be on Netflix US?
The film is coming to Netflix in the US (and likely India) as part of a first-window deal Netflix has with Sony Pictures for its entire slate of theaters from 2021 onwards.
The nature of this deal isn’t perfect, given that we’ve seen movies arrive on Netflix anywhere from 120 to 165 days after their theatrical release.
In this case, we originally expected the movie to hit Netflix sometime between May 2023 and June 2023 and now we have confirmation of that.
Netflix US will receive A man named Otto on May 6, 2023. Once on Netflix, it will stay there for 18 months before leaving for Hulu.

Other Sony movies coming to Netflix US in 2023 include the king woman, Devotion, Lyle, Lyle, Crocodileand I want to dance with someone.
Will international regions get Netflix A man named Otto?
Most other Netflix regions don’t have the first window offer like the US and India do, so you’ll have to wait until another window when it becomes available.
Netflix India, Bangladesh, and Pakistan received the film a little earlier than the US, with it drop in service on April 10, 2023. Since I arrived, it has been a fixture in the top 10 Netflix there.
Netflix Canada and the UK receive movies from Sony around two years after their theatrical release. This also applies to regions such as Belgium, Greece, Japan, Poland, Spain, Sweden, and South Africa.
That would mean that Netflix in these regions will see A man named Otto added sometime in 2024/25.
